What is Human-Robot Interaction?
Human-Robot Interaction, HRI, is the study and practice of how humans and robots work alongside each other. It's no longer a research topic. It's happening now, in warehouses, hospitals, retail floors, manufacturing plants, and tech companies around the world.
Robots are being introduced to do repetitive, dangerous, or high-volume tasks. That changes how teams are structured, how managers lead, and how people experience work, whether they're ready for it or not. Most leaders aren't prepared for that shift. HRI exists to change that.
The technology is moving faster than the people side.
Implementing robots is a technical decision. Managing the people side, the human-robot collaboration, is a business leadership challenge. Workplace automation requires people management skills as much as technical ones.
How do you bring your team along? How do you manage fear and resistance? How do you redesign roles when half the tasks are automated? How do you lead in a workplace where your team works alongside machines?
These aren't HR questions. They're leadership questions, and right now, most leaders are figuring it out alone.
For robotics companies and integrators
Your robot performs, and some deployments still stall. Usage drifts down, a site goes quiet, and nothing in the telemetry explains it, because the cause is the humans around the machine: a supervisor who never trusted it, a team that found a faster path around it, workers who were consulted late and are now proving a point. A third of end users name employee acceptance among the biggest obstacles to deployment.
I research exactly that layer. I interview the workers, supervisors and deployment leads who live with your robot, confidentially, on site, and report back what they actually believe, where trust breaks, where workarounds start, and what would move usage and renewal. It's the insight your logs cannot produce and your engineers cannot extract, because workers don't tell the robot company's engineers the truth.
